Electric Produce Transport Vehicles Launched at Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market
To thoroughly address the serious air pollution and noise issues caused by over 4,000 produce transport vehicles (including 800 diesel three-wheeled trucks) operating daily at the Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) of the Executive Yuan held a "Green Transportation Launch Briefing" at the market today (28th). During the event, the latest certified electric produce transport vehicles were showcased, and a vehicle purchase subsidy program was announced to encourage farmers to replace their vehicles with eco-friendly, low-noise electric models. This initiative aims to transform the Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market into a fresh and pollution-free marketplace.
As the largest produce distribution center in Taiwan, the Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market supplies one-third of the nation's fruits and vegetables. However, the daily operation of up to 800 diesel three-wheeled trucks within the semi-enclosed market space has resulted in severe air and noise pollution, posing significant health risks to market workers and nearby business operators.
Since 2010, the EPA has commissioned the Industrial Technology Research Institute and several vehicle manufacturers to develop electric produce transport vehicles tailored to local needs. Hu Shiminghui, a senior inspector at the EPA, announced that NOVELTEK Co., Ltd. has been approved as the official operator for the electric produce transport vehicle system at the Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market. The company will handle sales, maintenance, emergency support, energy replenishment, battery rental, and subsidy application assistance. These localized services ensure that users need not worry about electric vehicle maintenance while significantly improving air quality and noise levels.
The EPA hopes to use the Xiluo Fruit and Vegetable Market's adoption of electric produce vehicles as a model to promote green transportation at fruit and vegetable markets nationwide, creating a network of fresh and eco-friendly marketplaces across Taiwan.
